The Saints Season is Slipping away - AFL 2006 -

A spirited St Kilda side could not manage to complete what would have been a stunning comeback victory against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.Demons skipper David Neitz booted eight match-winning goals to help the Demons fend off the Saints by 13 points. Melbourne 15.13 (103) defeated the Saints 13.12 (90) to notch their sixth win of the season.

Coach Said :

"We were very, very average early," Thomas said. "We were very reactive and they out-toughed us and they were much harder at the footy and everything else and that's my responsibility and we've got to prepare them mentally to attack the game and they didn't. We've got to take responsibility for that."

High drama in Launceston - Saints Drawn Game

One of the most controversial matches of the modern era has ended in draw at Aurora Stadium in Launceston on Sunday.

At this stage St Kilda and Fremantle have picked up two points from the draw, but the bizarre manner in which the match ended is sure to have massive repercussions.

The Saints 13.16 (94) drew with the Dockers 14.10 (94) after St Kilda tagger Steven Baker kicked a behind to level the scores. Although the Saints leveled the scores with the last kick of the match, they did not lead at any stage.

Just as it seemed Fremantle was set to end its Launceston hoodoo and record its first victory at Aurora Stadium in a premiership match, the Dockers were 'robbed' of a win after the field umpires didn't hear the final siren.

The drama unfolded when the siren - which was quiet throughout the course of the match - was not heard by field umpire Matthew Nicholls with the Saints trailing by one point but deep in attack.

Fremantle players responded thinking they had secured a vital victory, yet the field umpires did not blow the whistle to signal the end of the match. Play continued as Fremantle players pleaded to the umpires.

After a ball-up in St Kilda's forward 50, the Saints cleared the ball and it ended in the hands of Baker whose shot at goal missed - but controversially leveled the scores.Amazingly, Baker was illegally bumped after his shot at goal and he was offered another shot. His set shot was off target and the scores were tied.

Saints full-forward Fraser Gehrig was reported in the first quarter for striking Josh Carr, while a Lenny Hayes round-arm indiscretion may also come under scrutiny from the match review panel.

AFL NEWS - Saint kilda draw with fremantle dockers - blog

Saint kilda fans, what do you think about the draw with Fremantle? Should the draw stick? or should the Dockers get the four premiership points?

Is Chris Connolly just a bloody sook.

Was the siren blown while the clock was stopped? did the umpire signal for the time to stop before the ball up? which is when the siren went.

Is Grant Thomas playing Dumb?

What's your view, should you guys keep the draw as it stands?

Saint-Kilda Footy Club - The Saints 2006 - AFL

The Saint-Kilda Football Club - The Saints-

The Sainters are they up to the standard we all thought they would be? Will Nick Riewoldt play to the standards we expect and grow as a champion footballer? The Saints are two wins and one loss, but hit by some early injuries but apparently are ready to take on Port Adelaide on Monday at AAMI stadium.

With the season shaping up the way it is who knows who will win, but I tip the sainters to win easily and gather some momentum into the middle of the season.

Currently the Sainters are still up with the favorites and will make top four and anything less will be disapointing.

Go Saints.
